The Redevelopment Agency has participated in more than 150 projects since its creation in 1969. Below is a sample list of some of the more recent and or significant projects to our community:
BEFORE
AFTER
AFFORDABLE HOUSING: Creating affordable housing is an important part of the Monrovia Redevelopment Agency's responsibilties. This home was refurbished using MRA dollars.
MIXED-USE HOUSING IN OLD TOWN: Dilapitated buildings stood at what is today known as Colorado Commons, which opened in 2008 in Old Town Monrovia. This was the first high-density, mixed-used building in downtown.
HIGH TECH CORRIDOR: East Huntington Drive in the 1970s and early 1980s was lined with oddly-shaped properties and under-utilized uses. Today, these former sites are now occupied by office space in what we know as the High Tech Corridor.
BUSY CENTER: Fazio's once stood at the corner of Myrtle and Foothill. Today, Foothill Plaza, which is home to Pavilions, is one of the busiest shopping centers in Monrovia. This was created with the help of Monrovia Redevelopment Agency funds.
REVITALIZED OLD TOWN: The 1960s and 1970s were a desperate time for Myrtle Avenue. But after the Monrovia Redevelopment Agency was formed, a public improvement project brought new life to what we call the heartbeat of the city.
T.PHILLIPS COMES TO TOWN: A building that sat vacant for nearly a decade was upgraded with Redevelopment dollars and the partnership of T.Phillips Alehouse, which opened in 2010 at 601 S. Myrtle Avenue.
